ABSTRACT

Persian numbers are in many ways similar to English, but also different in certain ways, most importantly when it comes to syntax. When written as numerals, numbers are written from left to right. In Persian numbers are used as pre-positioned adjectives followed by singular nouns. Numbers cannot be used pronominally in Persian; in the absence of a noun, there should at least be a counting word after them. Cardinal numbers are those that tell how many. Ordinal numbers are those that tell learners the order of things in a set, not the quantity. Modern Iran has adopted the metric system, borrowing many measure words from French. The days of the week in Persian start with Saturday, and Friday is a holiday.
