ABSTRACT

Immigration is generally the movement of people from their home country to another country in order to settle down for the purpose of livelihood and better life. It can be divided into two domains such as legal and irregular. Legal immigrants are the persons who possess proper documents in their host countries. Irregular migrants are the persons who do not have legal passport, travelling in another person's passport, overstay in the destination country after the expiry of their visa. They are also called undocumented immigrants. Undocumented migrants are the part of foreign labour that is largely unknown, unrecognized and severely unprotected. The issue of undocumented migration has been addressed in recent times by many regional organizations such as the 'Bangkok declaration on irregular migration', the global report of the UN Secretary General on 'migration and development', and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) declaration on migrant workers.
