ABSTRACT

Despite lingering grievances from the Japanese imperial ambitions of the early twentieth century, an evolving diplomatic relationship between China and Taiwan, and political tension on the Korean peninsula, an increased level of partnership among the East Asian countries is emerging, joining the considerable resources of its nations together for the conservation of their shared and unique cultural heritage. At the same time, inter-government cooperative schemes and an increasing number of regional NGO initiatives for heritage conservation are asserting their inuence in ways that add to a more harmonized and systematic view of East Asian cultural heritage and its protection.
