ABSTRACT

Children use natural materials or small PE equipment to model skeletons of animals with spines. Classification is the method used by scientists to put living organisms into groups with similar characteristics. Animals with a backbone are called vertebrates. The different classes of vertebrates are fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. Comparing the structure of skeletons from different animals helps to extend and deepen children's understanding of the skeleton by applying their knowledge in different contexts. Children could use digital media to video the presentation, self-assess their work and act upon their self-evaluation to improve their presentation. Explore creation stories from different religions, e.g. Buddhism, Hinduism. In Christianity, the Genesis creation narrative tells how God created the world in seven days; fish and birds were created on one day and other animals on another day.
