ABSTRACT

Thailand too has experienced a trend decline in self-employment and a constant rise in

wage employment. National survey data indicate that the share of self-employed in the

labour force declined by 10 percentage points every decade with wage gaining as much of

this fall. Wage labour rose from 12% in 1971 to 22% in 1981, 32% in 1991, 42% in 2002

and 45% in 2009. The data over the period 19711981 can be accessed from the National Statistical Office (NSO), while the data for the period 19872009 are shown in Figure 2.
