As the quote above from a student teacher illustrates, geography is interesting, relevant and challenging for children and for teachers. The nature of geography means that deciding on what and how to teach it can be rather overwhelming. This chapter aims to outline the many influences on teacher planning and provide guidance for teachers on how to plan engaging geography lessons for children. This chapter outlines:
• planning geography with children at the centre of the process; • approaching geography planning in a progressive and collegial way; • planning less, but more effectively; • offering value for money in resourcing geography; • planning for all children through creative approaches to differentiation.
