ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on how narrative is a powerful tool for increasing teachers' sense of agency, and how narrative-based tools and ways of thinking and acting can influence the adaptability and flexibility. It describes how various tools diaries and journal accounts, observational notes, audiorecording, videotaping, photography, blogging, and others offer a resourceful toolbox for starting and extending narrative inquiry work in classrooms and schools. The book expresses that narrative inquiry when done well and done in concert with colleagues offers a fruitful new path, a new set of plotlines, for improving the understanding of engaged student learning and achievement, personal and professional growth for teachers, and institutional change and adaptability. Narrative inquiry, at its heart, is about words the words one hear, the words one pay attention to, the words that guide as individuals and as professionals dedicated to educational change and transformation.
