ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an orientation to resources for the mathematics classroom, but is not intended to be comprehensive. It includes supplemental curricula for special needs students, manipulatives and other representations for mathematics concepts, technology for instruction, and integration of mathematics with other content areas. The chapter provides useful examples of simple materials and should spark the reader's imagination for additional adaptations or creations. It describes the selected commercial materials that have the power to demonstrate big ideas and connect critical concepts. The chapter addresses the integration of mathematics concepts and skills with other content areas with a few examples to illustrate the nature of content integration. It also provides an overview of common digital technologies for mathematics teaching and learning as well as some guidelines for teachers considering implementing technologies. The chapter also addresses concrete manipulatives, those that are teacher-made or purchased for hands-on manipulation.
