ABSTRACT

This chapter helps us develop a detailed plan for our nightscape session based on our understanding of astronomy and photography. It includes a pre-determination of our shooting location, a detailed schedule and suggested camera settings, along with the appropriate lenses and any specialized equipment that us might need for all our shots. The chapter explores a few locations where we might set up our equipment for the night, provided a suitable foreground subject is available. It examines our location at closer range within Google Earth to explore various compositions. Spending the time beforehand to clearly think through our objectives will help us stay on track when we are in the field. It will allow us to concentrate on the creative aspects of our session instead of getting bogged down in technical details and distractions that could have been minimized or avoided altogether.
