ABSTRACT

As this book went to press Twitter and Facebook were the most popular of the social media used in crisis communications. Professionals say Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, WordPress, Google Plus, and LinkedIn are also vitally important. Aaron Blank, president of the Fearey Group, said “The tools will change. MySpace was hot and it died. Foursquare was in and it’s now out. Facebook will be around if it continued to innovate. When it stops innovating, it will disappear.” Pam Miller, principal of numoon communications says “an omni-channel presence is critical these days, and it is important to understand the various channels, and their advantages and disadvantages.” Marilyn Hawkins of Hawkins and Company, agrees with both Blank and Miller on the hot social media, but she warns, “They don’t replace traditional media. Students must remember that.”
