ABSTRACT
The word 'archetypal' is a way of stressing the inherent value of each of the distinct valuations by which the psyche proceeds in its construction of consciousness. Jung's work on complexes and typology has provided a bridge within the discipline of psychology between the perspectives of William James. Much of Jung's later work on the archetypal cores of the complexes can be understood as his attempt to find structures that locate the dialogue of complexes within meaningful narratives. Studying the internal dialogues of clients in analytical psychotherapy, working with their dreams and using the theory of psychological types to identify the naturally occurring pairs of opposed valuation positions. Gabe succeeds in moving away from his unsatisfying competitive dialogue with his witch-wife, and is able to take up a dialogue that is finally characterized by integrity with his anima-student.
