ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents closing thoughts of key concepts discussed in the previous chapters of this book. The Sasanian period is among the epochs of Persian history which has received much attention in recent years. An excellent synthesis of current knowledge is the work of one of the major contributors to the writing of Sasanian history, Touraj Daryaee: Sasanian Persia. The Rise and Fall of an Empire, London, 2010. Josef Wieshofer's Ancient Persia, London, 2001, covers a longer time span of 550 BC to 650 AD. This remarkable book is full of original ideas, some more persuasive, perhaps, than others. Much more radical is a book that will require us to look again at the whole matter of Islamisation in Persia, what opposition it faced and from what quarters, and what that meant for Persian society and government over a distinctly lengthy time.
