ABSTRACT

Literature about cities is increasingly enriched by a variety of theoretical considerations concerning practical interventions and strategies to be implemented in order to make them more dynamic in terms of balance and sustainability. Several recent studies praise the concept of slowness as well as the use of technology in aiding sustainability and enhancing quality of life. This chapter introduces the concepts of smart cities and slow city, and highlights the points of convergence between the two sustainable urban models. It examines how each can be applied with examples from Spain and South Korea.
