of my teeth,’’ my husband, Tom, declared just before I was scheduled to open the conference.
Someone at our table responded, ‘‘You’re lucky, Cape Town has some of the best dentists in the
world.’’ It didn’t feel very lucky: Cape Town was the first stop on a 10-week trip to Africa,
Europe, and Australia.
