ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how a business approach to change has a positive influence on its effective implementation. It addresses the centrality of monitoring, evaluation and review in the change process primarily at setting level, but through an example of practice, will also give consideration to monitoring change in children's progress. The desire to achieve success is motivating; self-evaluation should focus on identifying strengths and weaknesses, such as: Evaluation is an essential component of development planning and an essential prerequisite to preparing any subsequent plan for change. Developing a collaborative approach to the management of change in an early years setting can be demanding and may call for a new focus; the chapter has outlined an approach to change modelled on that employed within the commercial sector. Action research involves the identification of a practical problem or issue that is changed through individual or collaborative action, and then researched.
