The introduction aims to construct the concept of “local musicking,” drawing especially on the work of Ruth Finnegan, Christopher Small, Thomas Turino, Arjun Appadurai, Doreen Massey, and Anna Tsing. The second part of the chapter situates the contributions of the book in relation to this conceptualization and in relation to one another.
