ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book introduces the idea of representational memory systems from attachment theory research to help us explore the layers of attachment and their associated meanings in our various roles. It explores the transformative journey for a supervisor across professional practice in two European countries and through the enhanced incorporation of an emotion focus in the work. The book discusses the strong connections and feelings experienced by supervisor and supervisee when working on specific cases containing child abuse and violent material. It explores the patterns that connect narratives from therapist's personal and private lives with narratives from family therapy practice. The book addresses the importance of caring for supervisee, supervisor, family and individual clients, as well as the organisation they work in, partly constituted by these roles and people.
