ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the Japanese life style and their habits. The life of the people is the most interesting and it is the most instructive, matter connected with any country. The bulk of the population is poor, very poor, but that poverty is not emphasised in their homes to the same extent as in European countries. The chapter has devoted to the religions of the Japanese people, and has remarked that religion appears to be losing its influence upon the educated classes of the country, who are quickly developing into agnostics. It also remarked, flowers play an important part in the lives of the Japanese people, and with them no part is more important than the decoration of the graves of their dead. Ancestor worship plays an important part in the religious economy of Japanese life, and the All Souls' Day in Japan is an important national festival. New Year's festival is the great day of the year in Japan.
