ABSTRACT

The chapter explores the applications of the Data analytics and operations management (OM) techniques in various domains. It describes the existing research on the use of big data and analytics on the topic, which is then followed by future research directions according to the interests of OM researchers. The chapter broadly outlines how these techniques have been applied in the contexts of retail, mobile, energy, advertising, smart city, and healthcare. It presents several relatively new issues that need fresh attention given the availability of big data and new tools for data analytics. The chapter describes that organizations and managers should be encouraged to apply OM-based decision tools in solving data driven problems that could help them make better decisions. Researchers to investigate cutting-edge problems and issues relevant to future managers should be encouraged.
