ABSTRACT

Operational research and data analytics techniques have been applied in telecommunication in many forms over the years. With the popularization of cloud-based systems, the placement and management of data and resources have spread across a globally distributed network. So, addressing the problems related to optimization of network applications in cloud environments requires a fresh look. Operations management is in a strong position to deal with these new applications. Capacity planning is also an important problem in the telecommunication industry, similar to its position in the manufacturing industry. However, the differences between these two industries are that the transmission capacity surplus cannot be stored as inventory and the unsatisfied demand cannot be backordered. In a capacity provision network, service providers coordinate through a capacity allocation hub. A content delivery network (CDN) is a system of distributed servers that deliver web content according to the geographical proximity of the users.
