ABSTRACT

National networks and regional networks for many years have provided much of the live sports content that is delivered to consumers. Within each of these two categories, we often find both broadcast and cable options. The decisions made by these networks have played a major role in changing the landscape of the sports industry. This chapter examines key areas of decisions at these networks. Appendix 16A presents an overview of key players in the US sports television network landscape. Examples from other countries are provided in the text of this chapter. Appendix 16B provides an overview of five companies that are major sports broadcasters, but also play multiple other roles in the sports industry.
