ABSTRACT

This chapter explores three of the most exciting ways to increase a stage performer's vocal repertoire and control: accents—finding new sounds from unexplored places; character voiceover work—discovering casts of thousands in oneself; and singing—facing fear and expanding one's expressiveness. It enables the stage performer to research an accent using print and online resources and develop an accent warm-up and employ physical as well as auditory ways to learn an accent. The performer can perform an accent with varying degrees of heaviness, demonstrate a range of character voices; and prepare a voiceover demo for commercial, industrial, and cartoon work. Since different kinds of reads and voices are used for different voiceover fields, there are different demos: commercial demo, non-broadcast demo, and cartoon demo.
