ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe a place-based, family-centred approach to supporting the health, development, wellbeing and learning of vulnerable children and their families. We provide insight into the processes, challenges, opportunities and possibilities embedded in a place-based, family-centred community school established in Australia. Throughout the case study discussed, different approaches to guide and support professionals in their work with vulnerable children, families and communities are presented, and various examples of some of these “approaches in action” are provided. Practical strategies and take-away messages for coming together and working with key service delivery partners to better support children and families are also offered.
