ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the extent to which interviews with think tank practitioners and quantitative data indicate drivers and constraints to the Anglo-American traditions influence on the development of think tanks. Analytically the Anglo-American tradition is expected to lead to the creation of more policy and advocacy think tanks. The ability of policy think tanks at the EU-level to integrate public and private objectives, agents and funding through networks signifies a successful business model. The chapter analyses the development of policy think tanks in the UK, Germany and in Denmark. This is useful for elaborating the impact of the Anglo-American tradition across the four cases. It reveals both drivers and constraints to the Anglo-American traditions impact on the development of think tanks at the EU-level and in the UK, Germany and Denmark. The creation of several policy think tanks with mixed funding in Denmark within the last decade also lends support to the impact of the Anglo-American tradition.
