ABSTRACT

Technology and related areas such as innovation and Internet business have traditionally been the forte of Western companies and major sources of income for them. Internet-based business is a case in point, where Chinese companies have focused on how to deliver value to customers, while Western companies have emphasised technology and efficiency; for instance, eBay migrated its China platform to the USA to achieve standardisation and efficiency, failing to deliver better value to Chinese customers. Chinese individual-based strategic and management systems have innate advantages and disadvantages, depending on the key individual of the organisation or nation. The Middle Way as a core Confucian value represents gold standard behaviour and crystallises Chinese wisdom, benefiting readers with optimal knowledge of Chinese business. Huawei is not typical, however; behind every successful Chinese company, there are countless ones that have failed, as a result of individual blunders or weak organisational support.
