ABSTRACT

Peter Singer builds on the work of Henry Spira (1927-98) in suggesting 10 effective strategies to use on behalf of animals. To many, Henry Spira was the most effective activist of the modern animal rights movement. He put the issue of cosmetics testing on the political map, and convinced the USDA to abandon a face-branding requirement slated to include all cattle imported from Mexico. His success shows that one person can still make a difference.
