ABSTRACT

I bring it home in this final discussion. The university is not an ivory tower, sheltered and separate from the world of exploitation and dissent. Academia is as implicated as any other workplace in conflicts between labor and capital, resistance and hegemony. When budget cuts, tuition hikes, and police brutality came to the University of California (UC), my own students, and many other intrepid students and graduate students throughout the system, experimented with creative and performative tactics to resist those changes, build a movement, and express dissent to the greater public.
