ABSTRACT

The front loading of vocabulary has been a common technique used for teaching mathematical terminology. There are many techniques for teaching vocabulary. But many still begin with the introduction of the new word or term. The teacher may explain the word's meaning. Students may write the meaning in their own words. They then may illustrate the word, use it in writing tasks, or compare and contrast with other words. Listening to and observing the strategies students use to draw the opened design is fascinating. Some students will draw exactly what they see and then 'flip it over'. That's a great transformational geometry term. The mathematical term is 'reflect'. A definition or explanation of the term is given along with examples and perhaps counterexamples. Some of the mathematical terms are symmetry, commutative Property, Factors, common factors, greatest common factors, Square numbers, Square roots and one of the multiplication models was the area model.
