ABSTRACT

This chapter starts by defining critical discourse studies (CDS) and presenting a multi-level framework model for the critical analysis of workplace discourse. This is followed by a brief review of existing work in organizational discourse studies as well as conversation analysis and pragmatics, before CDS is presented as a comprehensive but underused approach. The chapter includes a case study to illustrate what a critical study of workplace discourse could look like and closes by discussing how CDS research of/in the workplace can be promoted.
