ABSTRACT

The national vision for the education, training and workforce development of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) nurses is ambitious. Therefore, practitioners must demonstrate excellent practice, use evidence-based care and work in partnership with children, young people, families and their fellow professionals. In clarifying defi nitions and terms of reference for this chapter, it is important to acknowledge that there are several groups of nurses working as autonomous practitioners across the full range of comprehensive CAMHS. While the majority are mental health nurses, there are also a growing number of registered children’s nurses, learning disability nurses and health visitors working to support the emotional needs of children and young people.
