ABSTRACT

This chapter compares and contrasts the drivers and barriers to building information modelling (BIM) with the e-procurement. It describes the costs for e-procurement and BIM relate to process being carried out such as exchange of documents through e-procurement and with BIM through a common data environment. Those surveyed who were using BIM ranked it the second highest driver for its adoption McGraw Hill show that two-thirds of BIM users have made positive return on investment from BIM implementation. The chapter provides a useful insight into BIM and e-procurement adoption in the construction industry. It provides a detailed account of drivers for construction and shows with the targets that the acceleration in e-procurement and BIM adoption levels in the construction industry that many benefits can be accrued. The BIM Industry Working Group suggest that one of a number of significant organisational impacts through BIM implementation is the collaboration or communication aspect of BIM for all stages in construction of a project.
