“The Destruction that can be Studied”

In May 1964, a young student in the archaeology department of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, submitted a research proposal to his teacher. A copy of this proposal survived in the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) archive. We have translated the entire proposal from Hebrew, since it is a rare document (Appendix 1 and Figs. 11.7–8).
