ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceeding chapters of this book. The book indicates the future trends and developments within the context of the 'frame' which is being designed. Energy security, as it has been seen in the various chapters of the book, is still a China-centred affair, as if one country's security could systematically mean insecurity for other countries. The book shows that new efforts have been deployed at home in terms of improving energy efficiency, and that China has taken into consideration environment policies and best practices in terms of construction and urban development, although enforcement remains very weak. The growing role of best practice, the concern for air quality, largely influenced by international debates, China's participation in climate debates and finally the country's foray into new spheres of influence, mean that China's approach tow.
