ABSTRACT
This chapter considers how nursing as work has survived, and it can be seen that despite change, the culture of nursing retains a common value system and an historical foundation from which it stems. As part of these changes we can also consider their impact on the image of nursing in different societies. One of the major figures in nursing that retains an impact on how nursing is seen in various international societies remains that of Florence Nightingale.
