ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how effective practitioners facilitate applied learning; discusses nine key factors that underpin good facilitation of applied learning; suggest some topics for professional reflection. Teachers are responsible for facilitating the development of knowledge, skills and values for learners; values that include notions of inclusion and lifelong learning modelled and embedded throughout learning process. Fundamental to concept of inclusive education is nature of teacher–learner relationship. The role of the teacher or any other education professional is fundamental to fostering understanding of inclusive thinking and practice within the team they operate in, and in wider educational community. Managing effective collaborative learning is an important skill that any teacher needs to master. Facilitating applied learning is rooted in a belief that teachers have high aspirations for their learners and that all learners have a right to access learning opportunities. A learner's mindset can greatly affect their desire to access school, college or university to achieve and improve their future.
