ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains the meaning of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) while placing particular emphasis on the concept of a cyclical feedback loop. It addresses two essential themes of the cyclical, regulatory process: student motivation and strategic action. The book also addresses five types of student beliefs that can directly influence student effort, persistence, and resilience in the classroom. The five types of student beliefs are self-efficacy, interest, value, mindsets, autonomy. The book focuses on the importance of strategic thinking and action as students learn. It aims to bring the SRL cyclical feedback loop to life by conveying the process through which students approach, complete, and refine their performance on classroom activities. The book examines the integrative SRL instructional approach with respect to test preparation and test review activities.
