ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the contemporary perspective of career counselling which could participate in the new definition of the field. It describes the importance of identity and reflexivity for constructivist approaches. The chapter explains the constructivist model of self-construction applicable in career counselling is described. M. L. Savickas expounds how the life design paradigm that aligns with constructivist and socio-constructivist perspectives of career is appropriate for the evolution of developed societies and the transformation of the world of work. This chapter deals with the importance of experience for self-construction using this patchwork of theoretical models. It explores the practical issue for counsellors are to avoid exploring the whole-life contexts of clients. Clients are offered the opportunity to make as many patchworks as they want to, so that counsellors help them to identify and to understand their life themes.
