ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the need for universities to have a long-term vision of the unique and distinctive value proposition they are offering their students. The IPPR report referred to earlier was a sharp reminder to leaders in HE to the fact that the technological change and innovation already underway had the potential to be seriously disruptive. Learner analytics available from digital resources has the potential to boost learning. Anne Morrison predicts that the future will see even greater deployment of this form of tertiary education, thereby satisfying the needs of both the learners and the companies that employ them as apprentices. The apprentices also have work placements with engineering teams in the BBC and selected industry partners such as ITV and Arqiva. The recent PA Consulting annual survey of Higher Education in the UK reported that 92 per cent of vice-chancellors were confident in the long-term resilience of their own higher education institutions (HEI).
