ABSTRACT
Both the power of the gift, which helps to explain the enormous interest it has excited in the other social disciplines, and its weakness, which causes it to be an easy victim of the reductionism of economics, owe to the same fundamental factor: the gift does not make any unnecessarily demanding assumption about human nature.
