ABSTRACT

Political scientists are increasingly adopting experimental methods for research in Brazil. These include both experiments conducted by scholars at Brazilian institutions as well as by foreign scholars, primarily from the United States (Hidalgo, de Figueiredo and Kasahara 2011, Turgeon and Rennó 2010, Dunning 2010, Boas 2012). These experiments cover a diverse set of theoretical questions about development, political parties, voting behavior, and media, but almost all share a single common feature: They did not comply with Brazilian ethical procedures.
