ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book is designed primarily for the art therapy world; however, because people believe that it has universal applications, they think that positive psychology practitioners, as well as those from other mental health and arts-related fields, will also appreciate its value. It suggests that much of the content could be useful to therapists at all stages of professional development, from students and entry-level therapists to seasoned clinicians, educators, and researchers. The book also looks at parallels in the development of psychology and art therapy and ways that applying a "positive" lens may benefit both. It then presents a Positive Art Therapy Manifesto which outlines the mission and goals of positive art therapy. The book finally suggests future directions for research and practice in a positive art therapy approach.
