ABSTRACT

Accomplishment (achievement), was added to Seligman's formula for wellbeing after one of his students challenged him that "people pursue success, accomplishment, winning, achievement, and mastery for their own sake". Achievement is often used synonymously with accomplishment, and is defined as the completion of goals which a person highly values. Positive art therapists considers what positive art therapy is trying accomplish by combining positive psychology with art therapy. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centered inquiry designed to ally with clients by asking the questions which highlight their intrinsic values and goals. Traditionally MI involves asking open-ended questions, however art therapist Horay recommends that art therapists incorporate non-verbal interviewing to help their clients to explore their goals and motivations. The art imagery and the creative process provides a virtual realm within which art therapists can enact a range of alternative possibilities—they can imagine various outcomes, project ourselves into those scenarios, and experiment with different conclusions.
