ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the elements of the new ‘Oakland– Marosszeky model for lean quality’ to define the main issues for attention of leadership in delivering organizational excellence. The organization which believes that the traditional quality and production control techniques and the way they have always been used will resolve their lean quality problems may be misguided. A sound lean quality policy, supported by the organization and facilities to put it into effect, is a fundamental requirement for effective implementation. The guiding philosophy drives the organization and is shaped by the leaders through their thoughts and actions. The senior management team will need to spend some time away from the ‘coal face’ to do this and to develop their programme and strategy for implementation. The pursuit of continual improvement must become a way of life for everyone in an organization if it is to succeed in today’s competitive environment.
