ABSTRACT
This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part summarizes research on Lesbian, gay, bisexual and questioning students in two East Asian societies – Hong Kong and South Korea – to understand their school experiences. It examines the school experiences of transpinay within the conflated identities "bakla" in the socio-cultural context of the Philippines, based on the concept of transphobia and the minority stress model. The part provides some suggestions to mental health practitioners and educators to acknowledge and supports transgender students. It discusses the sexuality education of male gay and bisexual adolescents and young adults based on two regional sexual health studies from Hong Kong, using a rights-based sexuality education perspective. The part considers the unique position of school social workers as cisgender allies supporting transgender students encountering transgender prejudices in Hong Kong schools.
