ABSTRACT

The Republic of Bulgaria is located in Southeast Europe and borders on five other countries: Romania to the north, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the south. The Black Sea defines the extent of the country to the east. According to the World Bank, Bulgaria is an industrialized upper-middle-income country. The Gross Domestic Product amounted to €42 billion in 2014. In normative terms, political life in Bulgaria is based mainly on the Constitution, the Election Code and the Political Parties Act. After the country’s accession to the European Union, election rules have been harmonized with the European Community law – acquis communautaire. The new Constitution was adopted by the Grand National Assembly on July 12, 1991. Under its terms, Bulgaria is a republic with a parliamentary system of government. Bulgaria has a multi-party political system. The Political Parties Act regulates the establishment, registration, organization, activity and dissolution of political parties.
