ABSTRACT
David Burne, in his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, rightly declares that 'if there be any relation between objects which it imports us to know perfectly, it is that of cause and effect.' And he goes on to say that 'the only immediate utility of all the sciences is to teach us how to control and regulate future events by their causes.'1
