ABSTRACT

In this article, the writer will attempt to define in a manner both precise and non-arbitrary what a capacity, whether of the active or the passive kind, essentially is. Also, to make clear the relation between a possessor of capacities, as such-which is what he means by a Substant-and its capacities. Also to distinguish and define the six formal categories of capacities there are, and the respective functional statuses of the substants exercising them. And lastly, to make clear both what a tendency is, and how tendencies are related to capacities.
