ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we discuss the functional dimension of our 3-D model for understanding and supporting episodic interventions in structures of organizations. In a nutshell, the main goal of the functional dimension of an episodic intervention in the structure is to improve this structure into one which helps the organization to ‘function well’. And, as we know from previous chapters, this is a structure with low values on its parameters. To improve this structure, the functional dimension has four sub-goals: diagnosing the structure-related problems of organizations, designing improved structures, implementing the designed structures, and evaluating the implemented structures. In the chapter, we describe these sub-goals and the activities which may help to realize them.
