ABSTRACT

Museums are rarely acknowledged in the global discussion of climate change, environmental degradation, the inevitability of depleted fossil fuels, and the myriad local issues concerning the well-being of particular communities – suggesting the irrelevance of museums as social institutions. The world’s issues and challenges have intensified dramatically since I published Museums in a Troubled World (Janes 2009), and they now include blatant corporate malfeasance along with the litany of social-environmental issues noted above.
