ABSTRACT
In the early 1970s, Vietnamese refugees escaping the Communist regime came to Australia in large numbers. They mainly arrived from South Vietnam. Australia was honor-bound to accept them because it had fought unsuccessfully alongside the USA to defend these people against the Viet Cong (Viviani 1984).
